Recent changes to liquor licensing rules

Major changes to liquor licensing regulations came into effect on 24th February this year, as a result of reform of the NSW Liquor Act 2007 and the Liquor Regulations 2008.

The measures were brought in to tackle an increase in drug and alcohol-fuelled violence in Sydney's Central Business District.

The new requirements include:

  • 1.30am lockouts and 3am cease service of alcohol across the Sydney CBD Entertainment and Kings Cross precincts;
  • A ban on takeaway alcohol sales after 10pm across NSW;
  • A two year freeze on new liquor licences and approvals for existing licences across the Sydney CBD Entertainment Precinct; and bans of up to 12 months if they are caught breaching responsible service of alcohol requirements.

If you run a business that involves selling liquor, then it is important that you fully understand the implications of these changes for you and your business. Szabo & Associates specialise in liquor licencing and can help you with any issues that may arise.
