A Resolution to Keep: The Importance of Reviewing Your Will

will review blog 560x374

The New Year is often seen as a time for resolutions. In reflecting on what can make a positive difference to ourselves and families reviewing your Will can easily be overlooked.

A Will should reflect the complexities of your life and protect your family and other interests in the way you wish it to. Circumstances and relationships, however, do change.

What can happen if you do not update your Will?

If you do not update your Will to reflect changes in your situation you put at risk the provisions you want to make for your family and others.

A Will relies on many pieces of information being accurate. It can be uncomfortable to think about what needs to happen after you pass away, but by regularly reviewing your Will you can, at least, be sure that your Will reflects the complexities of and the changes in your life. This may be because of new additions to your family or a change in circumstances such as an inheritance. Perhaps the named executor is no longer able to perform the role for whatever reason. Or there may be additional persons you now want to include in your Will.

Reviewing your Will regularly ensures that you can best protect those persons or institutions you care most about. After all, this is why you made a Will in the first place.
